Tildruin FAQ

Characters

1) How will the characters appear in Tildruin? By that I'm referring to physical appearance: relative size, hair, face, etc...

DrCBVI answered, confirmed by Shailejron:

As far as I know you can select hair colour etc. so what you select will affect in game appearance (red-haired Elf, looks different to green-haired Troll)

2) Furthering Q1, will it be possible to change one's appearance? For example: when equipping a piece of clothing, will the appearance of the character actually accommodate itself to it?

Shailejron answers:

Yes!

3) This question is another add-on to Q2 . Will there be features such as hairstyling? dying?

Shailejron answers:

Everyone should provide their character with a textual character description. That is a perfect space to describe hairstyling and other bodily features.

Having said that, characters will be able to tattoo themselves. These tattoos will enhance your characters attributes. Yes, tattooing will be a skill!

4) Will players be able to make facial expressions? poses?

Shailejron answers:

Yes, you can use textual socials and emotes.
You could for example type "smile happily"
and everyone would see "[Insert Character Name] smiles happily",
or you could emote by typing "emote slams the table with his fist."
and everyone would see "[Insert Character Name] slams the table with his fist.

Yes, there will also be graphical poses, like waving your hands etc.

5) Can anyone (except for nanjarii) disguise himself/herself as another one?

Shailejron answers:

Yes, rogues will have disguise skills and the power of illusions should not be underestimated.

6) If yes, will the name or appearance change?

Shailejron answers:

Both.

7) And if a player will take a look at someone, will he distinguish whether it's PC or NPC

Shailejron answers:

This can be distinguished by the way the name is formatted. You can however not tell the difference between an NPC and a disguised PC. Which is the point.

8) Concerning the disguises, will there be a skill be counteract/detect a disguised PC?

Shailejron answers:

"That is possible."

9) Do you age?

Shailejron answers:

Yes!

10) Will stats be decided by a dice? If yes, how many time can you roll the dice, and can you keep a value in memory and recall it later?

Shailejron answers:

You will not be using any dice at all. You will be given a sum of points to spend on your stats.

11) What stats will the character be based on?

Shailejron answers:

The characters main attributes will be: Strength, Constitution, Agility, Dexterity, Intelligence, Willpower, Charisma and Luck.

12) Can you earn extra luck for instance by getting really lucky on something?

Shailejron answers:

No, I'm afraid not.

13) When you make your character, at that time will you work on character appearance?

Shailejron answers:

Yes!

14) Is every character going to be in some way different from the others?

Shailejron answers:

Do you mean visually? I guess that all depends what items you wear.

15) What is the definition and difference between Agility and Dexterity?

Shailejron answers:

Agility - the power of moving the limbs quickly and easily

Dexterity - grace in physical movement, especially in the use of the hands

16) Will characters be able to get married and have children?

Shailejron answers:

We have discussed the possibility of characters to have children. We put this feature on the "nice to have" list and we will probably review its possibilities in the future. There is nothing stopping characters from getting married or roleplaying relatives. Why not find a player you trust to act as your daughter? Many things will be possible with a little imagination.

17) Some things cost a character in-character money. How does a character earn money if they don't currently have a shop or a job, etc?

Shailejron answers:

This depends on your character's morale and attitude towards work. It
is impossible to describe all sources of "quick money", but here are some
examples that do not require too much effort and go hand-in-hand with
exploration.

ERRANDS/QUESTS
--------------------
There will be plenty of small quests and errands for newbies to earn some quick
money.

HUNTING
------------
All mobs will not yield money, but a dead rabbit could provide fur, a bear
provide teeth and a frog poison sacs. At an early stage food and clothing
will be top priority and the character would have no use for a poison sac
not knowing what to do with it. He should be able to acquire necessity things
by selling components to shopkeepers or other players.

SCAVENGING
-----------------
A new player could explore nearby woods, but still stay close to town. A
lucky find could very well score some wood material, fruit, herbs or seed
lying on the ground provided by nature. Materials and components will be
sellable to shopkeepers and players.

DIGGING
-----------
A shovel or a mining-axe could be used to dig up metals, gems and roots.

USING SKILLS/CRAFTING
----------------------------
As the character progresses he/she will be able to make money by offering
her skills/spells/prayers/songs to other players, as well as crafting and
enhancing objects.

18) Will one's character have to have an eating/drinking requirement? If so, will there be a spell/prayer/skill to use instead of eating?

DrCBVI answers:

You will have to eat and drink (with occasional sleeping). A spell could be used to instead of eating, but I imagine it would only last a short time, no doubt the user would feel even more hungry after in wore off.

19) If my character's an Elf, will I be able to talk to Nanjarii?

Shailejron answers:

The following quotes can be found on the nanjariil language page.

Nanjariil is a mystical and respected language, foreign to all but nanjarii. The language has been preserved intact and it has only changed when new knowledge about the world has demanded it to. Nanjariil is a language that has been guarded by strict traditions and it may not be scribed onto materials that lose quality quickly.

Nanjariil is a complex language requiring extensive knowledge in astronomy and mathematics.

20) As the character grows and develops, will you gain more points to distribute, or will the attributes be permanent as of creation?

Shailejron answers:

You will not be given new points to spend on your attributes, but your characters stats will change with age.

21) In the recent interview, it was mentioned that players will die eventually. Does this means that you will have to completely restart your game from scratch when this happens.

Shailejron answers:

You can continue to roam the dreams of mortals. You could pay a visit
on old friends and relatives giving them advice in their dreams or
tell them about the secret treasures you hid across the world... The
game is over if you decide it is, but it doesn't have to be, if you can
learn to cope with living on in dreams.

21a) Also, how fast will you age in this game?

Cyria answers, confirmed by Shailejron:

I think that it was said that a human will live for 3-4 real life years. An elf or dwarf will live slightly longer. I don't know about the other races though. I believe that this is long enough for a lifespan, because half of the games I have played people never play the same game that long.

It has also been said that there will be items in game that prolong the life of a player character, but are extremely hard to acquire.

22) When that time comes, will there be some kind of guide for what the point spread would be for an average individual of our chosen race?

Shailejron answers:

Yes absolutely, but all character stats are described in relation to your characters race. So, if you are a halfling and have "average strength" you know that your strength is average for a halfling.
