Tildruin FAQ

NPCs

1) Can one kill NPCs (non-player-characters)?

DrCBVI answers:

Yes.

2) Can you hire NPC's?

Shailejron answers:

Yes, but NPCs will never supplement players. They can perform mundane tasks like shopkeeper, gardener etc.

3) Is a NPC librarian a possibility?

Shailejron answers:

This has not been thought of before and it is an interesting idea.

4) Will there be any children in the game (not rl) and if so how will the growth process be handled? Will there be note-able animation (as well as stamina etc.) for older characters.

Shailejron answers:

There will be children NPCs, but they will not age automatically. An area in Tildruin is not a simulation of reality. An area only consists of important rooms, beings and items. Everything placed in an area is added with delicate care and intent.

Take a city for example. A simulation would have 10.000 npcs running around. This will not be the case in Tildruin. Tildruin areas have more in common with a story/play/movie than a simulator. Only important rooms, beings, and items are found in an area. There will be main (named) characters as well as extras.

Many computer games use random generated content for npcs, quests and areas. Random generated content seldom offers in-depth plot, well put dialogue and complex intrigue. Quests tend to reach the complexity of: kill X, get Y in Z minutes.

In Tildruin we are aiming for hand-tailored and approved content. We believe it is necessary to achieve high-quality content.

I would like to end by making it clear that we promote playability over realism. Tildruin is not a "sims". Many things will be very unrealistic and simplified. The goal is to have fun and role-play.

5) When people first enter the game will they have to wonder about aimlessly until they speak to a npc or another player for help, or will they have to help themselves?

Shailejron answers:

New characters will always begin in their guild hall and receive guidance from their NPC guild master. We will develop newbie helper systems in collaboration with the community during beta stages.
